Kent Area Issues

Kent is your city! Mark Gagnon’s vision is to make this beautiful city even better. In the Kent area many residents share many of the same issues as other communities in the Seattle metropolitain area. It is important for voters to understand that many, but not all issues can be solved by the city council. The following is a list of issues shared by voters throughout our community.

Public Safety Public safety is critical to keeping our neighborhoods safe. Kent can be a safer place for its residents, particularly for its children. Although it has a low crime rate, Kent still has too many burglaries, thefts, assaults and automobile break-ins. I understand the importance of making sure our first responders have the tools they need to do their job. Mark Gagnon will work with the City Council to implement a crime-reduction plan in Kent, thereby potentially providing increased security and safety in our neighborhoods.

Real Estate & Development We need to have a balance between open space and land development but with its rapidly increasing population, Kent's housing situation demands new, innovative planning and ideas. Mark Gagnon will seek ways to provide affordable housing in Kent and to limit the unsightly, crowded construction that we have inherited through state and county mandates.

Transportation Traffic congestion is greatly increasing due to the huge growth in our city and surrounding communities. Kent needs to provide a more efficient transportation system! With Mark's experience in regional transportation planning, as a member on the South King County Metro Sounding Board and as a member of Kent's Transportation Master Plan Task Force, Mark Gagnon will work diligently to find new and creative ways to improve and reduce Kent’s traffic congestion, particulary in icy conditions. The city also needs to focus on maintaining and keeping our roadsides clean and appealing to not only it's residents but it's visitors.

Clean Neighborhoods The city needs to work harder to keep the gang tags and graffiti out of our communities by punishing those caught making them clean such tags, theirs and others. We also need to improve and keep our roadways clean.

My door will always be open to the citizens of Kent. I have recently met with many of you at your homes and I will listen to your concerns and suggestions. Kent is a city with much potential and I promise to work in conjunction with the City Council to provide for the needs of its residents. Together we can make the city of Kent a better place to live, work and play. I would like to be your next city councilman and would be honored to have your vote on November 6th. Thank you!
